HARE KRISHNA
Orkut is a data warehouse of a variety of interesting stuff. I believe that every psychology student should treat browsing Orkut as a best lab excercise for his unofficial case studies (A few terrorists or psychopaths too can be caught through this). Today, I have encountered a very interesting but a very typical character in Orkut.
Swamiji. His passions is "To preach about Lord Krishna", books are "Sri Brhad Bhagavatamrtam, Sri Jaiva Dharma", tv shows are "Krishna, Mahabharata, Ramayana" and films are "Bhakta Prahlada, Tukarama, Nadia Nimai". Till this, its OK. Perfectly normal. The issue comes at his cuisines - its "Krishna Prasadam".
Irony is he is an M.Tech in Industrial Engineering and Management from IIT Kharagpur. He also claims that he has worked with many prominent corporates like Walt Disney, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, Pepsi-cola, Citicorp Software, ITC, Dun and Bradsheet, Cambridge Technology Partners, Hasbro Inc, IBM, and EMC Corporation (True?).
Crurrently, our Swamiji is based at Bangalore. But it seems that soon he is traveling to New Zealand, Australia, USA, Russia, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Nigeria, Brazil, Denmark, Japan, Pakistan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Fiji, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad, UK, Holland, Ukraine, Bosnia, Mexico, Puerto Rico and so on (Globalization?).
Swamiji's message to the world is "simple":
1. Take initiation from Om Vishnupada Srila Narayana Maharaja.
2. Chant Hare Krishna maha-mantra day and night.
3. Do not eat meat, fish, eggs, onions and garlic.
4. Do not gamble.
5. Do not take intoxication, wine, tobacco etc.
6. Do not have illicit sex.
7. Do not steal or cheat others.
8. Do not give trouble to other living entities.
9. Always the neck beads of Tulasi and put on the tilaka of gopi-chandana.
10. Observe Ekadashi twice a month by not eating grains and beans.
11. Never criticize, complain and stop chanting.
12. Control the desire for three Ws (wine, women and wealth).
13. Control the desire of three Ms (men, money and marijuana).
14. Spend at least 50% of your profit to spread the knowledge of Krishna consciousness.
15. We are all spirit souls, parts and parcels of Sri Krishna. Hence, we are brothers & sisters.
I am agreeing to NONE of the above except the item No.7. Happiness is the basic instinct for the mankind to survive - definitely NOT the sacrifice. If everything in the world is meant to be ignored, what for they are created by the so-called Lord? Wait. I missed out some thing. He mentioned his sports as "Dancing in front of Lord Krishna".
